Nat Ho joins fellow Singapore Idol alum, Gayle Nerva, on a new pop banger, ‘Next Better Playa’.
Multi-hyphenate artist Nat Ho is back with a brand new single ‘Next Better Playa’, an unabashedly pop single inspired by 8-bit retro gaming sounds blended with a subtle touch of jazz and big band influence.
Dropping today, “Next Better Playa” is, according to Nat, an empowering song about finding one’s tribe. He had co-written this song with Grammy-nominated Singapore producer-songwriter Tat Tong, who has worked with artists like Troye Sivan, Pitbull and JJ Lin.
Nat, whose career kickstarted back in 2004 with Singapore Idol, brought on fellow Idol alum Gayle Nerva on the track. According to an interview with CNA Lifestyle, Nerva was actually the “next better player” that came along, after the person whom Nat reached out to originally flaked on him.
While the subject matter of the song is a rather heavy one, the track itself is an upbeat pop song that reflects the ever-optimistic singer.
“’Next Better Playa’ was written at a place where I was becoming very intentional about my friendships and relationships, about who I wanted to work with or allow into my life,” Nat explains. “The fact of the matter is, in this game of life, it is near-impossible to play solo, and whoever we choose to team up with matters.”
The music video for the song will be released on YouTube next week. Animated by Sydney Wild, the lyric video (in reference to the playful opener of the song) will be 8-bit themed, to reflect the nostalgia and fun of retro games.
