Celebrity Diet is a monthly roundup where we feature food places approved by your favourite stars.
With the holidays in full swing, there’s no better time to go on a foodie adventure. This month, join Sophie Willocq in hunting down some colourful rice bowls, or satisfy your appetite for all things pretty with some dainty sweet treats.
1) Jemimah Wei @ LiHO
Rising to fill the gap after Gong Cha’s sudden departure is home-grown bubble tea brand LiHO. Birthplace of the island’s very first cheese tea, LiHO is taking social media by storm, with foodies and fans eagerly documenting their first tastes of the frothy, savoury topping. If you can’t resist joining in, try the Cheese Mango Smoothie ($6.90), which is essentially a deconstructed mango cheesecake. The foam provided a salty contrast to the sweet beverage, although it had little effect on the drink itself when the two were mixed together. In the end, we can’t help but agree with the Hype Hunters – these cheese teas are indeed novel, but they’re certainly not worth braving the queues.

2) Sophie Willocq @ NINJA BOWL
Eat your greens, and reds, and yellows. Add a whole lot of colour to your next meal at NINJA BOWL, where they serve up square meals in bowls bursting with fusion cuisine ingredients. Stay on top of your #eatclean plans with the well-balanced Genki ($16), which comes with a slab of yaki unagi, roasted pumpkins, bean sprouts, pickled beets and an onsen egg. Or opt for the healthy Yasai ($16) for fresh salmon poke, tomatoes, mixed sultanas and an onsen egg. Either way, a trip to NINJA BOWL won’t do much damage to your waist or wallet (meals here are all under $20).

3) Melissa Celestine Koh @ Brother Bird
Our preferred method for beating the June heat: chowing down on ice cream. And these homemade frozen treats from Brother Bird come jazzed up in some unique flavours. You can’t go wrong with their mainstay Cookie Butter ($7), topped with crushed lotus biscuits for added crunch. Fans of the tropical fruit will enjoy the watermelon soft serve – a seasonal flavour which makes a guest appearance on their menu from time to time. Look out for other unusual flavours like the taro milk tea and roasted barley.

4) Amander Liew @ Shop Wonderland
Shop Wonderland is a quadruple threat, combining a cafe, florist, retail space and workshop all into one. And they’ve got a killer menu that’s impossible to resist, too. Who could say ‘no’ to the dreamy Maple Bacon Cinnamon ($8), a cinnamon tea cake crowned with maple bacon slices and drizzled with a cream cheese frosting for an indulgent treat like no other? Complete your afternoon tea with the dainty Honey Chamomile ($4) tea cake, or a slice of Rose Raspberry Pistachio ($8) cake. While you’re there, feast your eyes on other sweet treats and the various less edible but equally gorgeous blooms.
