Orchard Road turned into a fancy K-pop concert venue last night.

Fans of Korean heartthrob Yook Sung Jae of K-Pop group BtoB enjoyed a free show as part of ION Orchard’s eighth anniversary celebrations yesterday.
The charming star showed off his vocal prowess with tunes like ‘Tell Me’, ‘Who Are You’ and ‘Paradise’. He even tried his hand – quite successfully, we might add – at a Mandarin song, with a rendition of Joker Xue’s hit song ‘丑八怪’.

In typical Korean-star fashion, Yook extended his appreciation to the organisers as well as the many screaming fans who turned up “despite the warm weather”. He even invited two fans up on stage and serenaded them, leaving the star-struck ladies in fits of giggles. Talk about pandering to your demographic.

Local band 53A also took the stage, performing covers of hit songs like Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’, which received the warmest reception from the audience during the band’s set.
The night also featured a fashion show where 24 models strutted down a three-tiered industrial-themed runway, decked out in the latest collections from labels such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Dsquared2, Carven, DKNY and Hardy Hardy.
“I put in some extra effort into my fashion today because tonight is ION’s 8th anniversary fashion show!” Yook joked.

The singer was presented with a gift by Mr Chris Chong, Chief Executive of Orchard Turn Developments, before returning with an encore performance.
Even as the event ended, his eager fans crowded the exit, which led to this chaotic scene in the mall:
Fans who want more of Yook Sung Jae can still pose with his standees in ION Orchard until Oct 1. You can also post the pictures on Instagram with the hashtag #ION8ight for a chance to win autographed CDs of his latest album.
Happy birthday, ION Orchard!
