The Somerset Belt may be a recent branding conception, but the area has for years been the hotbed of creativity for budding entrepreneurs, and a magnet for youths who crave the exhilaration of sports, music and entertainment.

For two weeks from 25 Nov to 18 Dec, it will host Somerfest, a celebration of the aspirations of Singaporean youths, featuring a host of experimental projects and unique experiences at the Somerset Belt, including colourful exhibits, art installations and live performances. Youths can explore the unique experiences created by fellow youths at Somerfest and discover endless possibilities at Somerset Belt.

The catch? Well, you will be glad to know that there isn’t one; admission is completely free of charge. If you’re a youth with the spark of an idea, you may find kindling at the Somerset Sandbox; if you’re an indie music lover longing for the verve and gusto of a concert, you’ll find one along the Belt; or if you simply want a new place to hang out with your friends or family, you’ll find fun at the Somerfest.

Here are three event highlights to catch at Somerfest 2022 that we’d hate to miss:

1. Somerset Sandbox

Youths looking to start their businesses will now have a platform to hear such inspiring stories, gain business insights, get mentorship opportunities, and even pitch for funding (like in Shark Tank)! Held at the Somerset Youth Park, Sandbox Somerset is organised by Invade, in partnership with the Somerset Belt Office, under the National Youth Council (NYC). Sandbox Somerset is a celebration of the spirit of entrepreneurship, and it features 100 Somerset youth founders spanning across the creative, retail, and F&B industries, to celebrare their milestones and present them as the next generation of industry leaders. 2. Realise Your Somerset Project (RYSP)

The National Youth Council had an open call for ideas to liven up the public spaces in Somerset via the programme, Realise Your Somerset Project (RYSP). The initiative, now in its 2nd edition, will see a total of 23 projects ranging from musical concerts and dramas to dance challenges open to the public from now till 18 Dec 2022. One of the projects is Parkour @ The Belt – a mini parkour park setup for challenges, performances, and workshops. If you’ve always wanted to try the sport, here’s your chance to join the free beginner-friendly classes from 20th November to 18th December to learn how to do so safely. SCOOOP will be giving away 1,000 free ice cream scoops for those who take part in their social media challenge from 16th-18th December – look out for the flavour Burnt Kaya Cheesecake, which will be exclusively available for Somerfest. Other interesting activities include an indie music concert, a booth where you can play traditional kampung games, and a ticketed drama based on mental health. For more information, visit here.

3. Majulah Holiday Special

In partnership with the National Youth Council (NYC) and Somerset Belt, Majulah Holiday Special is a Christmas-style concert which features some of Singapore’s most talented vocalists, both established and up-and-coming. Cosy up with your friends and family to holiday-themed sets by Angelo, LAYYI, Dominic Chin, Marian Carmel and headliner, Benjamin Kheng. Look forward also to special drinks from alcoholic sparkling beverage manufacturer, Jiggy, to keep you company throughout the night as you visit the various festive booths and soak in the holiday spirit.
