March has arrived, and it means International Women’s Day (IWD) 2021 is here! IWD is a day celebrating the wide array of women’s achievements all across the globe. Commemorated annually on March 8th, The campaign theme for this year is ‘Choose To Challenge’. This month, Netflix has a slate of new releases to celebrate the strong, brave, inspiring and beautiful women that star in our lives.
First up, from the creators behind Legend of Korra comes the new animated series, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood. Based on Valve’s hugely successful global video-game franchise DOTA, this animated series chronicles the story of a Dragon Knight. Gear up for a ride as you journey with the game’s fearless first heroines in a reimagined universe.
Next is the highly-anticipated film Moxie. We are blown away by a group of powerful women who aren’t afraid to fight for their rights. Inspired by her mom’s rebellious past and a confident new friend, a shy 16-year-old publishes an anonymous zine calling out sexism at her school. Directed by the comedian, Amy Poehler, this film screams girl power!
Another exciting film on the roster is Sentinelle. Transferred home after a traumatizing combat mission, a highly trained French soldier uses her lethal skills to hunt down the man who hurt her sister. A brave tale about sisterly love and a determined female lead taking the helm of an action film? Sign us up!
This animated film embodies how strength shines brightest in adversity. In Bombay Rose, escaping from child marriage, a young club dancer living in the streets of Bombay must choose between fending for her family and finding love with a boy orphaned by the militancy.
In Yes Day, we see Jennifer Garner in the spotlight as a strict mom who takes a leap of faith. Usually saying no to their children, a mom and a dad decide to say yes to their kids’ wildest requests — with a few ground rules — on a whirlwind day of fun and adventure. Parents, take notes!
Finally, Love Alarm returns with its second instalment after blowing the world away with its debut. This time, Jojo finally musters the courage to pursue her one true love. Longing for resounding proof of her feelings, the self-willed lead resolves to uninstall the shield and make the app ring for her one true love.
