It seems like Nick Fury just can’t get a break as he faces another imminent threat in Secret Invasion – the Skrulls. Who are the Skrulls? What are they capable of? And what is their ultimate motive? Who or what are the Skrulls?
You’ve probably heard of them if you’ve watched Captain Marvel. They’re extraterrestrial beings with the ability to shapeshift at their whims and fancies. First formally introduced in Captain Marvel, these aliens sought refuge from the fearsome Kree empire before escaping (thanks to the benevolence of Captain Marvel herself) and being promised a new home.
In other news, protagonist, Nick Fury, partnered with Talos, leader of the Skrulls, who has also made his appearances in several other Marvel movies. Wait… Talos? Leader of the Skrulls? It seems like the Skrulls have gone unnoticed in other films before Secret Invasion.
Have we seen them before?
Captain Marvel may seem like the debut of the Skrulls, but these aliens have long infiltrated the ranks of the heroes in other films. Now that we know that Fury and Talos are up in arms together, it’s time to erase what you thought you knew and it’s time to question everything.
In Spiderman: Far From Home, the Nick Fury we thought was helping Peter Parker turned out to be the leader of the Skrulls in disguise, while his wife, Soren, stealthily took the place of Maria Hill. Remember the scene at the end of WandaVision where Monica Rambeau wound up being recruited by another Skrull? How will that end up playing out? Are they good or bad?
We can’t spill much for now, that would just ruin the fun but it’s safe to say that tensions are at an all-time high. After learning that Soren has been parading around town with her identity, Commander Maria Hill returns with the War Machine himself, James Rhode, who we last saw briefly in a memorial scene in Falcon & The Winter Soldier.
CIA Agent Everett Ross joins the crew as he rounds off his armada, thanks to Okoye for freeing him from being trapped behind bars in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. For now, it’s clear that they’re banding together to face another common enemy – but can we really trust them after all we’ve learnt?

Introducing Gravik, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir: a Skrull who seems to be leading the clandestine invasion on Earth.
